If you’ve been to the Grand Canyon before – this is totally different. Most people visit the tourist destination of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, which both of us had already done. This trip, we chose to explore the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and were thoroughly surprised when we found ourselves in pleasant, cool temperatures and thickly forested areas – totally, 180-degrees different than the South Rim!

We only had a day to explore this area so we took a scenic drive through all the routes and viewpoints that line the North Rim area. We took a few short walks to some vistas and Chris did a hike to one that Bailey and I were too tired for at the end of the day.

I don’t know that I’d recommend the North Rim instead of the South Rim, but if you’ve already done South Rim, the North Rim is definitely a different environment and unique perspective on the Grand Canyon with some spectacular views. If you are trying to visit during the warm part of the year, the North Rim offers a cooler opportunity for some hiking and vistas.

Day 6 Campground:
Kaibob Camper Village – Rating: ★★★★

Kaibob Camper Village is an adorable small campground in the middle of the forest. It was definitely scenic, but got 4-stars due to the facilities. In a fully self-contained camper, you’d have no issue, but for us teardroppers the bathroom and shower facilities were definitely rustic and a little further away. Showers were coin operated and you were encouraged to keep it short due to drought. Some of the sites may be more challenging to park in due to trees around the entry of the site, but the hosts are happy to help you get situated if you need it.
